Something I made today
In my spare time.
It's a cellular automata game-- You can set your own rules or use COnway's. It's all in 3D, it features a low-res skyshpere and all of the content was produce by me about 4 hours ago.
Download the archive here
I don't have any screenshots on-hand and it's late so I don't have time to take any.

Re: Something I made today
Sounds interesting... I've played around with programming a version of Conway's Game of Life on my TI-89 Titanium graphing calculator, but it's been a while since I've really done anything with it (though recently I *did* greatly optimize the sprite generation code).

Re: Something I made today
Well, this one is in 3D and allows you to use your own rules xP

Re: Something I made today
Looks pretty nifty... although IMHO, it's rather hard to tell where one cell ends and the next begins when viewing at an angle (as in, like your last image there).

Re: Something I made today
Yeah, I'm gonna give them a nice Yellow Texture w/ borders tonight.
Maybe make a better skysphere and add a little landscape around the grid, as I plan to turn this into a full-fledged Artificial Life simulator

Re: Something I made today
Okay, I have some bad news.
First off, DBP takes forever to load models, secondly I fell asleep last night and then school happened, so I'll have to get all this done later today, and thirdly I discovered Frets on Fire and am addicted to it.

Re: Something I made today
For a minute there I thought you were using my code as a base to get that 3D XD but you're using DarkBasic eh? honestly I frown upon DB over the fact it's complicated, slower than GameMaker ina few cases but atleast it offers decent 3D.

Re: Something I made today
DarkBASIC isn't complicated or slow... And it was made for 3D apps and has an incredible amount of preprogrammed 3D maths commands and allows the use of 3D vectors without having to write a whole lot of extra code for them.
It's just Direct3D wrapped into a basic-language. Not like .NET or other BASIC languages that are compiled once and then interpretted.
I don't even have object culling on on that program and I get ~100 FPS
I did, however, lose the source code when I moved it to my laptop :-/
I was going to rewrite it anyhow because I had too many bjects and I wasn't deleting my pointers correctly, etc.
So if you run it you'll see there's a 20kb memory leak afterwards xD
The only problem with it is there is no proper OOP system-- But I'm working on fixing that
And anyway this is DarkBASIC Professional 7.2, much different than DarkBASIC Classic.
