Re: Happy New Year!
Happy New Year everyone!
I just got back online. My internet got cut off and has been off for a week due to my comp sending spam emails.
I can't seem to get rid of the damn virus. Spybot and AVG don't find it. However I did manage to use my Internet service provider's online scanner and it said I have 15 viruses and 18 spyware on my computer. BUT, during the scan it stops scanning and goes back to the beginning again without deleting/quarantining anything. A window pops up saying "your internal memory is too low" or something. This is really frustrating. I need some suggestions on good free virus and spyware scanners. I won't be online too much until i this resolved. I don't want them to cut off my net again.

Re: Happy New Year!
IMO AVG is the best. You just need it updated I think (and you need to do a full scan).
Anyway, before you do that you need to manually disable the viruses.
How to manually disable the viruses:
a. Shut them off
1. Open up the task manager by pressing ctrl-alt-delete.
If it will not open (like if it says "Task manager disabled by administrator"), the viruses may have disabled it.
To reenable it, check out this link: http://antivirus.about.com/b/2007/11/05/how-to-reenable-task-manager.htm
2. Once the task manager is open, click the "Processes" tab. Next click the little box below the tab that says "User Name". This will sort all the running programs by user. Right-click each process that is running under your name and click "End Process Tree".
Don't disable your anti-virus program if it is running. This will also fix the "Memory is low" for now.
b. Keep them from starting
3. Next, press: (WindowsKey -> R) (Press R while holding down the WinKey). Then, type 'msconfig' and press enter
4. Press the "Startup" tab and uncheck almost every thing (Leave what you want to start up).
5. Press "Services" tab and check the box "Hide all Microsoft services" below the list of items. Then, uncheck all except what you want.
c. Search and Destroy!
At this point, you can restart the computer and preform all adware and virus scans, or you can go ahead and preform them now.
You may even want to start the computer in safe mode (you can do that by pressing F8 right before windows starts loading and selecting 'Safe Mode' or 'Safe Mode with Networking'). I would only start in safe mode if you cannot scan in normal mode, however, because you will not have internet access in safe mode (You MIGHT if you start Safe Mode with Networking, though).
Let me know what happens. After this is resolved, I'll delete/move these comments (or another moderator can do that now if they wish)
I resonantly did all this for my uncle, who had over 50 viruses on his computer!
After your done, you may want to look into getting a firewall m8. Check out PCTools firewall (Freeware).

Thankyou. I am finding it hard to determine which process is a virus and which processes are needed in the Processes tab. I guess it's a matter of trial and error? But i'll try out what you said and let you know what happens.

Re: Happy New Year!
You can also google the name.
You can safely close ALL processes that are run under your user name.

Re: Happy New Year!
Ok. I did what you said and I updated AVG and scanned and it turned up nothing. The viruses are probably blocking theirselves from being scanned by AVG. (just a guess) So what program should I use now?

Re: Happy New Year!
Try, comodo antivirus.
Also, you may be able to run an online scanner if the viruses are off. Norton, Panda, and a few other big anti-virus dudes have free online scanners. Try one of them.

Re: Happy New Year!
Just a heads up guys. My PC's SYSTEM file got corrupted, I recovered the stuff and the PC is/was fine for a little bit. Then I got a buttload of AVG related errors. This is the last time I install AVG and ever connect to a Microsoft server on that PC because all it does is cause issues. And just now I tried to get support and fucking microsoft are asking me to grow wings and fly through some hoops >.< **** them.

Re: Happy New Year!
AVG can't even find the viruses on my computer. I used free online panda virus scanner. Ran it all night and the are 88 corrupted files. Too bad I have to buy the damn program to remove the viruses. Looks like I have to format my computer. There goes 2 years of files down the crapper. My computer is so messed up right now. My internet connection is saying a network cable is unplugged and crap when it definately is plugged in. It takes forever to load anything. This sucks really bad. Perhaps I should stop downloading things. But then what would the point of a computer be? This is the 3rd time i'd have to format in 3 years. There are too many files I would like to save but It'll take ages to compress them and then put them on a CD. I'm trying to narrow down the files I would like to keep.
So far I am saving my Music, Carnivores, Guitar Tabs. Most of the other crap I can redownload.
P.S before I format can someone lend me or find me a windows 98 SE cd key. I lost mine over the years. I'd find one myself but you don't know what I had to go through just to get to this site nevermind searching the net for a CD Key. I need to install Win98 before I can install WinXp. I have my XP key but can't install until 98 SE is installed.
Well wish me luck guys. This computer is crap to begin with but now it is just unbearable.
